Stabbert Yacht and Ships Ambitious Seattle Plan
SEATTLE, WASH.- Dan Stabbert, Stabbert Maritime’s Chief Executive Officer, has recently purchased Barnacle Point shipyard. The facility sits in the artistic Seattle neighborhood of Ballard and is now under the name Stabbert Yacht and Ship.
Stabbert Yacht and Ship is located on the north shore of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, northeast of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. The facility is equipped with a 1,100 ton dry-dock with shore-based hauling capabilities, an enclosed painting booth that can accommodate vessels up to 180 feet for application of high finish sterling and AWL grip paints, and 1600 feet of deep water moorage for vessels up to 450 feet. There is 20,000 square feet of covered structure, 16,000 square feet of office space and a 2,000 square foot carpentry shop.
The facility has positioned itself to be the premier yacht maintenance support facility for the Pacific offering traditional vessel refit and repair services along with port engineering, 24 hour per day purchasing and regulatory support, as well as charter and management consulting for both owners and vessel managers. “SYS is a combination of many years of yachting and commercial vessel experience. The combination of the local trades and quality Northwest painting contractors with SYS shipyard and Stabbert Maritime’s operational experience provides yacht owners a synergy rarely found in a typical shipyard,” comments Stabbert’s son Daniel, who assists in the yards project management and marketing.
Barnacle Point has a rich history dating back to 1936 when it was first operated as a shipyard. Tri-star marine took over the facility and its operations in 1987 followed by Barnacle Point in 1999. Now Stabbert Maritime is its proud owner and operator with ambitious plans to continue its history as a shipyard while updating its capabilities to meet today’s competitive yacht standards with plans to further Seattle’s reputation as the Pacific’s most extensive yachting hub.
The Stabbert family has a long and well-established sea-going tradition. The company was founded in 1949 by Dan’s father Fred Stabbert, with a World War II surplus Navy mine sweeper providing marine medical services along the Pacific Coast from Alaska to South America. Over the years Stabbert Maritime has evolved from medical missions, freight services, contract towing and deep-sea fishing operations to a premier yacht refit, management and charter company. The company also manages a fleet of hydrographic research vessels through its sister company, Ocean Services, which focuses on
